The AC HotStick and other products use primary batteries of the Alkaline type. These batteries have good shelf life typically 3 to 5 years. They can normally be left in the equipment for that length of time. However a potential problem exists with battery acid leaking out of the batteries and damaging circuits.
- Batteries which were damaged during transit or installation (e. g. being dropped)
- Batteries left in the equipment when totally discharged.
- Improper design and manufacturing leading to poor seals.
These problems can normally be avoided with proper care, making sure the equipment is turned off prior to storage.
- Install only quality brand batteries.
- Do not install dropped, bent or damaged batteries.
- Turn unit on atleast once a month.
- Replace batteries annually.
To avoid potential problems altogether: Remove the batteries and keep them outside of the unit.
- Time and know-how required to reinstall.
- Batteries may be left behind.
We normally recommend to keep the batteries installed in order to save valuable time upon arrival at the scene.
If the system is to be used in regular training exercises (e. g. quarterly):
- Inspect the units annually.
- Make a check-out and a huddle test periodically.
- In case of the AC HotStick turn it on and let it go through the self-test.
- Make sure unit is turned off prior to storage.
- Replace batteries every two years at the latest.
- Remove the batteries from the set. Store separately.
- After (3) three years replace batteries with fresh ones.
- Turn the AC HotStick on and let it go through a self-test.
